Inservice Academy

July 19-20, 2011

An open invitation to TC's:

Each year we offer professional development to schools and districts that IWP teachers lead. As we increase our efforts to provide that high quality professional development, we need more of you who are ready to go out and do that inservice work for schools and school districts where we may develop programs and contracts and for our TCs' own schools and districts. So we are holding an Inservice Academy next week for the very purpose of developing new presentations.

We are specifically looking at this Academy as a way to build a cadre of TCs who can offer high quality inservice on the hot topics for which we anticipate an interest in schools or for our Saturday Seminar series. These topics include

• Writing to a prompt

• Connecting the Common core Standards to best practices in teaching writing

• Conferencing

• Mini-lessons

• Teaching grammar in context

• Teaching writing within and around the mandated 90-minute reading block

• Integrating writing into the content areas (writing to learn)

• Formative assessment techniques for writing

• Overview of writing workshop

In fact, this will be the series of topics that we will go out and sell to schools next month. The TCs who attend this Inservice Academy will be primarily the ones on whom we will depend for our programming.

So come join us on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 19 and 20, in Room 292 at the Bell Building, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We will learn how to plan a great IWP workshop. We will actually plan a workshop you want to present, collaborate in order to rethink and revise that workshop to make an even better presentation, then practice our plans with each other---all in classical Writing Project style (i.e., plenty of food, laughs, and chocolate).

If you are interested in participating please contact Linda Walker.
